SkyBalls Beta

The SkyBalls iPhone app is currently invite only Beta. We are only allocated 100 devices for testing purposes by Apple, therefore we have to ensure that those devices are being used effectively to maximize the collection of data for research purposes.

If you wish to collect data for us, please see the requirements below:

• You own one of the following running iOS 16:
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
• You have a passion for hail
• Your social media shows regular photos of hail you've encountered (supply links if it's buried if your timeline)
• You are an active chaser
• You encounter hail and large hail regularly
• You will accept all risks associated with chasing including damage to property, injury, death etc. (SkyBalls is often used in parallel with regular storm chasing)
• You are accessible for questions about the data collection
• Be willing to use the app, take a photo and send the data to us when hail is encountered
• Be seriously interested in science and collecting data for us. During chase season, our app users will be collecting on average around 5 samples per chase and 3 chases per month
• Not be associated with competing entity where it will be likely to interfere with your ability to collect data for us
• We do not pay for data collection
• You give us permission to use the data for research purposes and to share with other individuals interested in hail or the data
